  11.    o Meeting convened 9:30 AM on 8/1/90 chaired by Mark Needleman
  12.    o Attendees briefly introduced themselves and explained their
  13.      interests.
  14.    o University of California and Ohio State University gave short
  15.      presentations on work in progress or planned.
  16.    o Draft charter for group accepted by default in that no one raised
  17.      any objections to it.
  18.    o There was a discussion of what transfer formats needed to be
  19.      supported.  The consensus was that there did need to be a protocol
  20.      developed to support transmission of fax across the internet.  At
  21.      the same time support for fax using RFC822 and X.400 mail was
  22.      needed.  There was a sense that this 2nd issue might only need to
  23.      be a reiteration of what is already stated in RFC1154(?)
  24.    o An attempt was made to define a list of requirements for the new
  25.      fax transmission protocol.  These were:
  26.  
  27.       -  Protocol should have mechanisms for determining destination
  28.          node and route to destination node.
  29.       -  Protocol should work with both G3 and G4
  30.       -  There should be translation functions for standard document
  31.          formats including, at minimum, ascii to fax and postscript to
  32.          fax
  33.       -  The protocol should support sending fax machine to machine via
  34.          internet, computer system to fax machine via internet, and fax
  35.          machine to computer system via internet
  36.       -  Protocol should support receipt information to sendors.
  37.       -  Protocol should support explosion to multiple destinations.
  38.       -  Protocol should provide interfaces to other standard fax
  39.          services.

  41.    o Action items from meeting:

  43.       -  Marshall Rose (mrose@psi.com) will draft first cut at a
  44.          proposed architecture based on requirements listed.
  45.       -  Karl Auerbach (karl@asylum.sf.ca.us) will draft description of
  46.          what his proposed fax interface to mail looks like.
  47.       -  University of California and Ohio State University will write
  48.          and distribute short descriptions of the projects they have
  49.          underway or planned.
